Poems by Emily Dickinson (447 of 447)

dailylitemilydickinson:

LIX.

ETERNITY.

On this wondrous sea,
Sailing silently,
Ho! pilot, ho!
Knowest thou the shore
Where no breakers roar,
Where the storm is o’er?

In the silent west
Many sails at rest,
Their anchors fast;
Thither I pilot thee, —
Land, ho! Eternity!
Ashore at last!

Long Time Gone

It’s sweet to trust Him.  If you have felt this, if you have allowed Him to quiet your heart long enough to to release what you’ve been grasping so tightly and then you experience the release…  The release of things like the anxiety of not enough money, that dark place of not feeling pretty or skinny enough, the ache of loneliness, the hopelessness of desires deferred, the burn of impatience for things that seem golden-all of this and more in fist unclenched.  And then what about the pretty things-your gifts, those talents you are praised for, your beauty, the love of your life, the health and vibrancy of your family…those held in open palms alongside the others….  It is the most beautiful terrifying thing you can do.  And then you will know why it says “taste-see that the Lord is good” because it is the sweetest thing to trust Him.

Driving Time

When my life feels cluttered with rogue thoughts, unquiet hours, a to do list with unchecked items I become antsy to get into my car and drive up the 101.  There’s this stretch of freeway that lays peace heavily on my spirit like an uncannily cozy blanket.  I want this right now.  I want to talk to You unhindered and sit in quiet and learn to listen.  I want to know with my head and feel with my bones Your love.  I want to say “Whom have I in heaven but you? And there is nothing on earth that I desire besides you.”

My heart want to be full of and with You.  This is my heart’s desire love, please fulfill my request…

My Hope

My hope is built on nothing less than Jesus blood and righteousness.

I dare not trust the sweetest frame

But wholly lean on Jesus name

On Christ the Solid Rock I stand

ALL other ground is sinking sand…

Wait

A year ago the Lord began to train my heart in waiting.  What a beautifully difficult discipline.  I will wait for Him until I finally see Him.  As an encouragement He brought me back to these verses:

“May integrity and uprightness preserve me, for I wait for you.” Psalm 25:21

“I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living! Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!” Psalm27:14

“Love the LORD, all you HIS saints!  The LORD preserves the faithful but abindantly repays the one who acts in pride.  Be strong and let your heart take courage, all you who wait on the LORD.” Psalm 31:23-24

“But for you, O LORD, do I wait; it is you, O LORD my God, who will answer, for I said ‘Only let them not rejoice over me, who boasts against me when my foot slips!’

“Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for Him; fret not yourseld over the one who prospers in his way, over the man who carries out evil devices.” Psalm 37:7

“Beautiful Dawn”

Take me to the breaking of a beautiful dawn
Take me to the place where we come from
Take me to the end so I can see the start
There’s only one way to mend a broken heart

Take me to the place where I don’t feel so small
Take me where I don’t need to stand so tall
Take me to the edge so I can fall apart
There’s only one way to mend a broken heart

Take me where love isn’t up for sale
Take me where our hearts are not so frail
Take me where the fire still owns its spark
There’s only one way to mend a broken heart

Teach me how to see when I close my eyes
Teach me to forgive and to apologize
Show me how to love in the darkest dark
There’s only one way to mend a broken heart

Take me where the angels are close at hand
Take me where the ocean meets the sky and the land
Show me to the wisdom of the evening star
There’s only one way to mend a broken heart

Take me to the place where I feel no shame
Take me where the courage doesn’t need a name
Learning how to cry is the hardest part
There’s only one way to mend a broken heart

— Beautiful Dawn Lyrics-Wailin’ Jennys

Morning Wisdom

This post is from one of my Spiritual Mentors and I loved it!!

7Two things I asked of You,
         Do not refuse me before I die:
    8Keep deception and lies far from me,
         Give me neither poverty nor riches;
         Feed me with the food that is my portion,
    9That I not be full and deny You and say, “Who is the LORD?”
         Or that I not be in want and steal,
         And profane the name of my God.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I am reminded of two quotes:  one by Mark Twain and the other by C.J. Mahaney.
1.  v. 8a:  “Keep deception and lies far from me…”
Mark Twain:  “If you tell the truth, you don’t have to remember anything.”
http://www.brainyquote.com/quotes/quotes/m/marktwain133066.html#ixzz1I65V95bs
2.  v. 8b-9:
 8b  …Give me neither poverty nor riches;
         Feed me with the food that is my portion,
    9That I not be full and deny You and say, “Who is the LORD?”
         Or that I not be in want and steal,
         And profane the name of my God.
C.J. Mahaney:  “…experiencing a test of adversity or a test of prosperity?” (Humility 116)
Honestly, I think the test of prosperity is far more brutal in making a good man slowly deny and profane the name of GOD.  Greed and luxuria (Latin)make prosperous men steal, too.
His Heart
The Lord knows my heart.  He is intimately aware of each desire.  The good-He placed there to fulfill in His time and in His way.  The bad-He is refining, carving them out of me.  I believe that He will make my way straight.  I also believe that what He makes crooked no one can straighten.  So today, in this moment, I say I trust You Lord. Of course I trust You-You are all that is good, the only one who is good.
May I please have Your Heart?
